Does Volcanic Tooth Powder Foam?
Yes!
Is Volcanic Tooth Powder safe for daily use?
Yes! The mechanical action of abrasives in tooth care serve an important purpose: they remove dental plaque and surface stains. Our Volcanic Tooth Powder was tested by a leading dental laboratory (according to the American Dental Association’s standards) to have a RDA (relative dental abrasion) of 46. The safe limit is and RDA of <250 but many dental experts agree that an RDA <100 is best for safer dentin wear.
Is Volcanic Tooth Powder whitening?
Sure. All toothpastes that claim they are “whitening” are simply referring to the abrasives in their paste as they do technically whiten via this physical action. Some whitening pastes have hydrogen peroxide in them as well. There is no “official” whitening ingredient in toothpastes, just marketing claims made by most. So yes, we use several gentle abrasive agents and feedback suggests it whitens great!
What is sodium cocoyl glutamate?
Ecocert COSMOS approved coconut derived sodium cocoyl glutamate is in our powdered tooth powder to create bubbles. Sodium cocoyl glutamate is a surfactant made from the fatty acids in coconut oil via a reaction with glutamic acid (amino acid). It is found in many toothpastes. We love a good cleansing foam when we brush which is why we include it.
Don’t I need fluoride in my toothpaste?
There is no fluoride in Volcanic Tooth Powder. Many commercial toothpastes contain sodium fluoride or sodium monofluorophosphate. Fluoride strengthens teeth and makes them more resistant to cavities by creating a barrier helping to prevent tooth decay. Many municipal water sources have low levels or fluoride in their drinking water (you can check this by calling your city services; federal guidance state fluoride levels in water should not exceed 0.7 parts per million). We aren’t going to get into the fluoride health debate but we chose to leave it out of our daily brushing routine. Visit your dentist regularly for check-ups and treatments!
Can kids use Volcanic Tooth Powder?
You bet! Our abrasion test came back quite low at a 46; it is gentle enough for kids providing they like “mint” flavor.
Are these powders allowed on airplanes?
Yes! TSA only regulates gels and liquids to less than 3.4 ounces. The limit on powders is 12 ounces. Part of our inspiration to develop the Volcanic line was so one could travel for several months with just a few small 4 ounce bottles of personal care products. It’s time to skip all the single use toxic hotel/motel plastic ridiculousness.
Can I refill my Volcanic bottles?
Yes! All of our VOLCANIC powders are highly concentrated and last 2-6 months per bottle. Our refill pouch is available for refilling.
